The Royal Wedding received unnecessary attention

I’m just going to flat out say it.

The Royal Wedding doesn’t hold the significance to afford the coverage it has obtained.

That hit home when I was watching CNN a few days ago. The Anchor was speaking about the nine Americans killed by the Afghan police trainee they were working with when they decided that breaking news and veering away from the important story was to reveal the designer of Middleton’s dress.

I’ve been told that it is nice to see the news focus on a lighter subject that just makes people happy but across the pond this story isn’t one of lightness and happiness

According to Scotsman News, 80 percent  of Britains “just don’t care about the royal wedding.”

In fact many were outraged by the wedding, 20 million dollars came out of the British tax payers’ pockets for this wedding.

Furthermore, the plan for the march from wedding site back to Buckingham Palace required guards to be stationed every 5 meters along the road. With troops currently in Afghanistan this would prove difficult so the royal family had troops pulled from Afghanistan to guard the royal wedding.

Yes, because the Royal Carriage needs more protection than a convoy on the treacherous roads of Afghanistan. Right.

This wasn’t widely reported by the media and the deaths in the Southern portion of America was overshadowed by the media coverage of a wedding that truly didn’t affect America in any way.

Paint me as a cynic, but I find all this commotion over something that doesn’t effect us rather irritating.
