Shrek the Musical auditions to be held next week

The Lafayette Theatre Company will hold auditions for their ambitious spring musical during the week of Nov. 11.

Shrek the Musical, which has appeared on Broadway and toured nationwide in places like the Fox Theatre, will be a groundbreaking high school production.

“We are the first high school in Rockwood to do Shrek,” Natasha Toro, Director and drama teacher, said.

Auditions will be held on Nov. 12-13, and alongside their monologue and musical selection, students will be performing a dance they will learn on Monday, Nov. 11. Callbacks will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14.

Shrek the Musical will be performed on Feb. 7-9.

Lafayette students, staff observe eclipse

Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Rockwood School District is currently writing a curriculum for a new womens history course, which will be offered in the 2025-2026 school year. Social studies teacher Jodie Lee will teach it at LHS.

On March 13, the Presidents Forum hosted a “Meet The Candidates” event at the Rockwood School District Administrative Annex. A student from each of Rockwood’s four high schools was chosen to ask candidates three questions and more questions were asked from anonymous PTO members.

Adolescent rates of problem gambling behaviors are double that of adult rates. Cait Huble, Director of Communications at the National Council on Problem Gambling said that this increase could be caused by online games which have blurred the lines between gaming and gambling.

On April 8, during the eclipse, librarians, Jane Lingafelter and Robin Van Iwaarden, look at the sun using solar viewers, while on the field. Students and staff spent time on the field during the eclipse. The next partial eclipse in Missouri wont be till 2045.

After downloading the Here Comes the Bus app, parents can create an account for students with a Rockwood-specific code. Initially, the code will be available for 14 Rockwood buses. We felt it would provide another layer of convenience, communication and security for our students and families,” Mike Heyman, Rockwood’s Director of Transportation, said.

Students get samples from The Original Pancake House at the last Taste of West County, which that took place February of 2020. This year, the Taste of West County will be held March 11.
