The annual Rockwood Outstanding Service in Education (ROSE) awards are being held Sunday, May 5 at the Doubletree Hotel St. Louis at Westport, to acknowledge individuals with “excellence of character, performance, leadership and service to the Rockwood School District.”
The awards have been a long standing tradition in the Rockwood school district to ensure teachers and staff members are recognized for their hard work.
Assistant Principal Mandy Lewis — a previous award nominee herself –says the ROSE award does its job well.
“I think it’s a really good recognition when you have people that are very dedicated and when they’re going above and beyond and aren’t always getting a pat on the back or getting recognized I think it’s a really good way to show them that somebody notices what they’re doing and it’s a really nice way to say thank you,” Lewis said.
While students are allowed to submit an award recommendation themselves, Lewis says they’re more staff to staff oriented.
“The notification usually comes out from the district that you’re able to nominate so usually it’s more an adult base that knows about the nominations and what the Rose awards are,” she said.
Nominees are chosen by a 17 member committee that houses a mix of the community and staff members.
Qualifications include any volunteer or staff member in the Rockwood district and previous winners cannot win again.
