At the 2023 Prom, Class of 2023 graduates Joe Marlo and Will Barry stay at the edge of the main floor to do their dancing. Because the small dance floor was the most crowded area, many students gathered around the edges with friends or in small groups.

Choate encourages more students to attend Turnabout Dance

On Feb. 23, Lafayette will host its annual Turnabout dance from 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the commons. This year’s theme is “A Moonlit Night” and tickets are on sale from Feb. 20-21 for $10 and $15 on Feb. 22. Turnabout is a girl’s choice dance, meaning the girls ask the guys.

The week of Turnabout has specific dress up days; Wednesday, Feb. 20 is nerd day, Thursday, Feb. 21 is senior citizen day and Friday, Feb. 22 is black and white day.

On average, about 350 to 400 students attend Turnabout, far less than the number of students that typically attend the Homecoming dance. David Choate, Student Council sponsor, is responsible for the event, and he thinks more students should attend.

“I don’t expect any change in the number of students attending, but it’s the best dance Lafayette has. It’s like your own private dance floor,” Choate said. He encourages both singles and couples to go to the dance.

“You never know, maybe you’ll find that special boy there,” Choate remarked, laughing.
