Be the Change Week to change school’s perspective on others

Be the Change week will occur from Feb. 19-22 to teach students to accept others and to treat each other with love and respect.

Be the Change is a club where students talk about the problems they face in high school and the common problems that all students share in high school. Problems such as stress about grades and bullying are common topics.

The week will consist of themes where students can have fun with friends and at the same time change the way we look and treat each other. The themes are Compliments Wanted, Mix it up, Protect our Home, Heal Old Wounds and Show Some Love.

Compliments Wanted and Mix it Up is where students get to know someone new and give compliments to anyone. Protect Our Home is where students are encouraged to keep the school and the environment clean.

Heal Old Wounds is where people in the school forgive those who have hurt them in the past. Show Some Love is when people in the school just plain show some love and respect towards others.

Many students are unaware of the week and Be the Change is excited to tell one and all about the week. Students will be encouraged at the star meeting on Friday, lunch and morning announcements and hall announcements throughout the week.

The club isn’t just using Be the Change week to get their message across though, Be the change will also use the week to encourage more students to join and will be having later events in the year.

“We will be bringing another Challenge Day in the fall of 2013 and are trying to grow the Be the Change club, a Be the Change website and encouraging more student, parent and community support,” James Waekerle, club sponsor, said.

Members are excited for the event as well and are hoping that it will change people’s perspective around the school.

“People should really participate in Be the Change week because people will see how we can make our school a better place like Healing Old Wounds and Protecting Our Home it really will make the school a better place over all” Freshman and Be the Change member, Janae Rucker said.

Be the Change Week will occur from Feb. 19-22, and with it a new era of change will be ushered in making the school a better place overall.
