From the Beatles to Rise Against, Blink 182 to Coldplay and everything in between, all genres of rock music will be represent by student-run bands on Saturday, March 2 for the Lafayette Battle of the Bands.
At the event, which is composed completely of students, bands will be playing covers and original songs of various types of genres and subgenres of music.
Junior Bobby Boxerman is running the event. To keep all the details straight, he keeps record of all aspects in a journal and keeps in contact with his Renaissance sponsor Jodi Fowler.
Many years passed without an event like this, but Boxerman said he wanted to bring it back to help showcase student bands. He knows the industry well, because he plays bass and sings in his own band.
“A lot of people don’t know how good these students are. They have real talent,” Boxerman said.
Some people may say that, because the event will be held at Lafayette, it will not have the same atmosphere as a rock concert, but Junior Eric Rachell says differently.
“[The venue] is not much different,” he said. Rachell is a lead guitarist and vocalist of the “Furniture Movers,” which has played at Ciceros and Sky Lounge, along with other major venues.
Tickets will be sold for $5 at the door, pre-tickets are being sold for $4 and Fowler is collecting the money in Room 207.
