Beginning in September, ACT and SAT will develop a new security system in order to block students from cheating.
Instead of only using a photo ID when registering to test, students will have to submit a photo of themselves when applying for a test.
The photo will be printed on the student’s admission ticket and there will be frequent photo checks during the testing process. Students will be checked when they first arrive, when they return from breaks and when they turn in the tests.
The pictures will remain in the testing databases and checked again by high school counselors and college admission offices once the scores are calculated and submitted (CNN).
The new guidelines for the ACT/SAT testing were introduced at a news conference in Nassau Country, New York where 20 people were arrested last fall in a SAT/ACT cheating scandal (CNN). Officials found that several students have made fake I.D. cards, making the photo I.D not enough of a personal identification.
The counselors will meet on April 5, 2012 to discuss the new SAT/ACT security innovations.
