Lafayette students meet before athletes arrive in the commons to go over plans for the day. The buddy meeting was designed to help students paired with the athletes, learn about their partners.
Lafayette hosts Special Olympics for student-athletes, community
At the 2023 Prom, Class of 2023 graduates Joe Marlo and Will Barry stay at the edge of the main floor to do their dancing. Because the small dance floor was the most crowded area, many students gathered around the edges with friends or in small groups.
Lafayette Prom to take place at Ritz-Carlton
At the Class of 2023s graduation, graduates toss their caps into the air. Graduation for the Class of 2024 will take place on May 11.
Upcoming senior events mark end of year
On April 8, during the eclipse, librarians, Jane Lingafelter and Robin Van Iwaarden, look at the sun using solar viewers, while on the field. Students and staff spent time on the field during the eclipse. The next partial eclipse in Missouri wont be till 2045.

Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

At a North Carolina national park in 2015, junior Megan Pannell first discovered her fear of spiders. Her dad pointed out a spider, which caused Pannell to panic at the sight. “That’s when I think he realized, ‘yeah, you’re definitely afraid of spiders’, Pannell said.

What’s a Lancer?
After a hit, senior Will Gebhart flips his bat in celebration. This game was against the Parkway West Longhorns, which the Lancers lost 6-5. Gebhart had 2 runs in the defeat.
Boys track wins meet, boys water polo finishes runner up
Sophomore Chase Roeder hits against Lindbergh on April 17. The Lancers won the game 2-1.
Boys track wins meet, baseball goes undefeated this week
Junior Conner McCown putts during the Webster Cup Invitational tournament. McCown placed 13th with a round of 77.
Boys volleyball undefeated, golf places 2nd and 3rd at tournaments
Eyes looking upfield, senior Emily Derucki brushes by her defender. Earlier this year, Derucki received the Bob Kehoe Future Star Award from the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame. Derucki leads the team with 4 goals so far this season.

After their win against Eureka in the Battle of 109, seniors Cam Callaham and Sam Classen jump in celebration. The Lancers beat the Wildcats 8-4.

The animated version of Avatar: The Last Airbender first aired on Nickelodeon while the live action version is available for streaming on Netflix. Both series featured the same characters with similar storylines.

At Barnes & Noble, senior Vedika Kumar participated in Blind Date with a Book. During this event, books are wrapped in paper with descriptive words that give a hint about the novel, and individuals are free to choose which one they want to buy.
To the next chapter
After finishing their tests in history teacher Steve Klawiters class, students can participate in an optional trivia section. While Klawiter usually doesnt offer rewards for the highest score on the trivia section, it offers a way for students to decompress after unit tests.
History teacher provides de-stressing activities to students
Freshman Emi Limon competes in the 2022 World Kickboxing and Karate Union Championship in Wales. Even though Limon has only been doing karate for three years, he won four medals at the October competition— a gold medals in Weapons with Music and Korean Forms, a silver medal in Hardstyle Forms and a bronze medal in Weapons with no Music.

Pi Day celebrates the mathematical symbol of pi. People like math teacher Kevin OGorman have celebrated by eating pie and pizza on March 14.

March 1 is National Compliment Day. A theory taught in AP Psychology mentions the benefits of both giving and receiving compliments.

Throughout her house, junior Jessica Guan has decorations for the Lunar New Year. Her favorite are the fish, which promise auspiciousness.

Locker Clean-Out Schedule

Locker Clean-Out Schedule

With the end of the year approaching, students need to clean out their lockers before the end of the school year. The schedule for clean out times are as follows:

Seniors: Anytime during the week of May 14-18.

Juniors: Tuesday, May 15 during second hour.

Sophomores: Monday, May 14 during sixth hour.

Freshman: Monday, May 14 during second hour.

During these times, lockers must be cleaned and all non-essential items must be taken home. Administrators will check to be sure lockers are adequately clean.

Rockwood School District is currently writing a curriculum for a new womens history course, which will be offered in the 2025-2026 school year. Social studies teacher Jodie Lee will teach it at LHS.
