On Wednesday, Nov. 7, students have the opportunity to attend Coffee House, which is a unique talent show. However, it is not a typical talent show with show tunes and typical bands.
“It’s a scaled down version of a talent show. There’s not full bands or musical acts but it’s more of a café kind of style,” Tracy Gladden, language arts teacher and Coffee House coordinator said.
Most of the 18 acts will be musical acts with instruments such as acoustic guitars, but Gladden said that for the first time one student will be reciting original poetry. Also for the first time, a violinist will be performing.
Students had to go through an audition process, which consisted of performing their act in front of a pannel of judges, who then chose the best and most unique acts to be a part of the show. According to Gladden there were over 30 acts that auditioned, so the decision was very difficult.
The entry fee is $5, and it will be held in the Commons beginning at 7 p.m. Coffee and snacks will also be available for $1 each, and all proceeds will go to the Pulp magazine, which is the magazine created by the Creative Writing students.
When asked why people should attend Coffee House, Gladden said, “The talent at this school is unbelievable and people should support that. I don’t think there’s a lot of chances to see shows like this, so that’s another reason to go.”
