Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

2nd Annual Peter Navarro Scholarship BBQ to honor RSD’s fallen heroes

2nd Annual Peter Navarro Scholarship BBQ to honor RSDs fallen heroes

Saturday, April 21, Lafayette’s Junior Air Force ROTC (AFJROTC) will host a benefit BBQ to honor former Rockwood students that have lost their lives serving our country.

“This is a great way to honor past fallen warriors that gave their life protecting our rights,” Sophmore Cadet Josh Davis said.

Last year was the first year the BBQ was held, and it raised about $9,500 for the scholarship in Peter Navarro’s name.

This year the BBQ will honor three other Rockwood graduates that have lost their lives as well; Paul Varner also from Lafayette, Riley Baker from Eureka and Eddie Forrest from Rockwood Summit.  All proceeds will be divided equally and used to set up scholarships at each high school in the student’s name.

AFJROTC Instructor Dave Cugier said, “These fallen hereos have not only left their mark on yesterday, but are leaving their mark on today as well.”

The BBQ will be held from 10am-3pm on Saturday in Lafayette’s parking lot. Food options include hot dogs, hamburgers, bratwurst and pulled pork sandwiches, all cooked by Smokin’ Dave’s Championship BBQ, which includes Associate Principal Matt Diekhaus.  Prices range from $5 – $7 for a meal that comes with chips and a soda.

Donations toward the scholarships can also be made to Lafayette High School care of AFJROTC.
