Changes made to Rockwood Gifted Program

As of July 1, 2010, the acceptance requirements of the Rockwood Gifted Program will become more selective.

The current IQ level accepted into the Gifted Program is 130, however it will be changed to 132 as of the first.

“This change will not affect any current students in the program. If a student has already been identified, they do not need to reapply to remain in the program. They stay on our roster of students who receive services through our program,” Gifted Program Director Linda Smith said.

The alteration was due mostly to economic problems in the district, state and nation.

“Over the long haul, there will be a small decline of students in the district who receive services through our program,” Smith said.

She continued, “The change in our program’s requirement, though modest, will allow us to offer the same high level of services while realizing some savings through a small reduction in staffing that will ensue.”
