Perez defends State title as rookie senior on volleyball team
April 30, 2014
This year, senior Trey Perez is listed on the defending State champs boys volleyball varsity roster. But last year you would have found his name on the boys track and field roster.
Deciding to no longer go forward with his track career, Perez picked up volleyball his senior year. He has only played volleyball for fun prior to this season, competing in sand volleyball and swimming pool volleyball.
It is almost unheard of for someone to play a high school sport only their senior year, especially a defending State champ team, but Perez seems to fit in well.
After track season ended last year, Perez decided it was no longer the sport for him. “I had no more friends on the team because they all graduated,” he said. So with that, he made the decision he wanted to play volleyball where all his friends were. Perez was confidence in his athleticism that he would make the team and be able to have fun with the remaining months of his senior year.
The main thing for Perez was being able to have fun with his friends, and he found that on the volleyball team.
This season the boys are looking very strong and hope to be in the same spot they were last season. Keep an eye out as Perez and the rest of the volleyball team finish out the season.
