Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Club Spotlight: Be the Change club allows students to open up and feel accepted

Club Spotlight: Be the Change club allows students to open up and feel accepted

Every Monday, the Be the Change Club meets to discuss common problems that students deal with around school.

“Our mission is to create a club that will help foster a school environment where every student at Lafayette feels safe, loved, accepted and respected,” James Waeckerle, club sponsor, said.

The club started as an extension of the Challenge Day that occurred in September. Now, they focus on letting the members talk about challenges they’ve faced in school.

“We’re trying to focus on activities where the kids are able to open up and talk to one another and share their life experiences with one another,” Waeckerle said.

In the future, the club hopes to grow outside their group with a Be the Change week.

“Each day will have a different theme where we’ll try to bring our message to the school,” Waeckerie said.

He said that the group hopes to schedule this week during sometime in January or February.

Be the Change is open to all students and staff to join, and meets in Room 124 after school on Mondays. The next meeting is Nov. 19.

“We all come to school with our own challenges and difficulties in our lives. When we come to understand that, we will begin to treat each other with respect,” Waeckerle said.
