On April 8, during the eclipse, librarians, Jane Lingafelter and Robin Van Iwaarden, look at the sun using solar viewers, while on the field. Students and staff spent time on the field during the eclipse. The next partial eclipse in Missouri wont be till 2045.

Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Rockwood School District is currently writing a curriculum for a new womens history course, which will be offered in the 2025-2026 school year. Social studies teacher Jodie Lee will teach it at LHS.

On March 13, the Presidents Forum hosted a “Meet The Candidates” event at the Rockwood School District Administrative Annex. A student from each of Rockwood’s four high schools was chosen to ask candidates three questions and more questions were asked from anonymous PTO members.

Adolescent rates of problem gambling behaviors are double that of adult rates. Cait Huble, Director of Communications at the National Council on Problem Gambling said that this increase could be caused by online games which have blurred the lines between gaming and gambling.

At a North Carolina national park in 2015, junior Megan Pannell first discovered her fear of spiders. Her dad pointed out a spider, which caused Pannell to panic at the sight. “That’s when I think he realized, ‘yeah, you’re definitely afraid of spiders’, Pannell said.

What’s a Lancer?
In a routine based off of the Hindu gods Krishna and Radha, sophomore Hritika Malugu and Brentwood High School freshman Meenakshi Kadungath strike a pose. Malugus favorite routine is also based off of Krishna. My favorite dance piece is probably Asainthadum which is a classical piece about how everyone is happy when Krishna is around. It’s really dynamic and has a lot of fun steps, Malugu said.

Sophmore Halah Almuttan started her buisness, Halah’s Sweet Treats during fall this year. Other than selling a variety of self-made goods such as cinamon rolls, bunt cakes and churros, she also takes custom orders for treats like cakes, chocolate covered strawberries and cupcakes.

After a hit, senior Will Gebhart flips his bat in celebration. This game was against the Parkway West Longhorns, which the Lancers lost 6-5. Gebhart had 2 runs in the defeat.
Boys track wins meet, boys water polo finishes runner up
Sophomore Chase Roeder hits against Lindbergh on April 17. The Lancers won the game 2-1.
Boys track wins meet, baseball goes undefeated this week
Junior Conner McCown putts during the Webster Cup Invitational tournament. McCown placed 13th with a round of 77.
Boys volleyball undefeated, golf places 2nd and 3rd at tournaments
Eyes looking upfield, senior Emily Derucki brushes by her defender. Earlier this year, Derucki received the Bob Kehoe Future Star Award from the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame. Derucki leads the team with 4 goals so far this season.

After their win against Eureka in the Battle of 109, seniors Cam Callaham and Sam Classen jump in celebration. The Lancers beat the Wildcats 8-4.

Undefined team captain, Keira Makalintal, and member, Hailey Miller, perform a skit in the Lafayette theater at their March show. Undefineds final show will be on Friday, April 12th, at 3:45 pm and 7:00 pm.

At Barnes & Noble, senior Vedika Kumar participated in Blind Date with a Book. During this event, books are wrapped in paper with descriptive words that give a hint about the novel, and individuals are free to choose which one they want to buy.

After finishing their tests in history teacher Steve Klawiters class, students can participate in an optional trivia section. While Klawiter usually doesnt offer rewards for the highest score on the trivia section, it offers a way for students to decompress after unit tests.
History teacher provides de-stressing activities to students
Freshman Emi Limon competes in the 2022 World Kickboxing and Karate Union Championship in Wales. Even though Limon has only been doing karate for three years, he won four medals at the October competition— a gold medals in Weapons with Music and Korean Forms, a silver medal in Hardstyle Forms and a bronze medal in Weapons with no Music.

Pi Day celebrates the mathematical symbol of pi. People like math teacher Kevin OGorman have celebrated by eating pie and pizza on March 14.

Saleem’s West satisfys exotic taste buds

Known for their middle eastern cuisine, Saleem’s West offers Lebanese food full of unique flavors.

However, if you are not a garlic fan, this restaurant may not be the place to go. Garlic is celebrated as an essential ingredient in their food so much its in their slogan: “A toast to your health…and garlic”.

With menu items from tabouli to baba ghannouji to house-made lasagna for less adventurous types, Saleem’s is perfect for a unique night out.

Prices range from $10 to 20 for entrees.

But don’t forget to order dessert. Choices include a chocolate souflee, creme brulee, strawberry flambe, lebanese ice cream or baklava all made by a certified pastry chef.

They open at 5 p.m. till 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and till 10 p.m. on weekends.The are located at Winchester Plaza, at 14560
