Because of busy schedules and heavy work loads, reading is not a high priority for most high school students.
But freshman Korynne Hendges has not let school get in the way of her passion for reading. In fact, she reads a new book almost everyday day.
“I’ve always read that much,” Hendges said.
Hendges likes the fantasy genre, which she describes as a genre filled with mythology, creatures and magic.
“Creatures like werewolves, vampires, fairies interest me,” she said.
Right now, Hendges is reading Heir to Sevenwatersby Juliet Marillier. This book is the fourth book in the Sevenwaters series. Hendges has already read the first three novels in the series.
Hendges said Heir to Sevenwatersis about the daughter of the Chief of Sevenwaters. Her mother has a son when she is older, causing her to be ill, so the daughter must take care of the baby. The baby is stolen by fairies, so the daughter must go into the other world to rescue him.
When Hendges finishes a book, she said she usually reads the praises on the back of the book to find authors of other books she might like.
“Sometimes authors who read the books I like write the kind of books I like,” Hendges said.
