Every mile matters. That is, according to Charity Miles.

Charity Miles is a nonprofit organization that donates money to various charities through exercise by its participants. It is funded by copious companies and organizations that sponsor each runner, walker or biker and his or her miles.

With a colossal selection of 35 charities to choose from, a participant can donate money to the charity of his or her choice.

To become sponsored and donate money, one must simply download the free app. Then, there is the option to either do a quick start, or to register and create a free account. If pressed for time, all you has to do is open the app, select the charity, then get moving! For every mile walked or ran, 25 cents is donated; for every mile biked, 10 cents is donated.

On the other hand, the interested athlete also has the option to join a team. This is accomplished by registering and searching for a team.

Luckily, the Lancers have a team to join. Created by Lafayette PE coaches, all Lancers interested in participating are welcome to join. The team’s name is LhsTeamFitness.

“I think it’s great because so many people are already running. Why not run with a purpose?” senior Claire Moore said. Moore is a member of the cross country team and runs at least five days a week.
