The Lafayette Lancers boys basketball team lost a 44-42 nail-biter at Hazelwood Central on Tuesday. The Lancers also lost their earlier meeting with the Hawks in the championship game of the Ameritime tournament on Jan. 30 49-45.

The loss, only their third of the season, was a frustrating one for the Lancers. “It was a tough loss, but it was a good game,” said senior Reese Park. “We had some unfortunate calls with the refs, it just didn’t go our way, but the competition will help us going forward.”

The Lancers will finish their regular season at home against the McCluer Comets on Thursday. The Lancers enter the game 21-3, while the Comets enter the game 9-10.

“They’re a good team, they’re fast and very athletic,” Park said of the Comets. “I think it’ll be a good ending home game.”

This season has been a good one overall for the Lancers, who are almost guaranteed a number one seed in the District tournament.

“It’s been a very good season,” said Park. “We’ve really come together as a team.”
