Winter Guard holds second annual Zumbathon
February 25, 2014
The Winter Guard’s second annual Zumbathon will be Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in the Back Gym.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door and will be sold during all lunch shifts on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the week of Feb. 24.
“Professional zumba instructors will be there to lead everybody in an evening of fun zumba dancing,” Brad Balog, music teacher, said.
The Winter Guard will be competing at the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships in Dayton, Ohio on April third through fifth, and profits from the Zumbathon will help to reduce the cost of the trip.
Many may not have a clear understanding of what exactly Winter Guard is.
“It’s basically Color Guard but indoors, and we don’t have marching band; it’s music over the intercom and we have a tarp,” Leah Gornet, senior and Winter Guard member, said.
Though some may think their performances are simple and easy, the opposite is actually true.
“Their performance is a combination of flag, saber, rifle and dance choreography,” Balog said.
Other than the Zumbathon, attendees will get a sneak peak of the Winter Guard’s performance for the World Championships.
“The Zumbathon will begin with an exhibition performance of our guard’s show ‘Frozen Wonder’,” Balog said.
Those who will be at the Zumbathon can expect a wonderful performance by the Winter Guard.
“As a member of the Scholastic A division, they continually finish at or near the top of their class,” Balog said.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
