Six finalists have been selected for the title of Teacher of the Year for 2010-2011.
The six finalistas are Mike Berenc, ROTC; Marty Margalski, physical education; Brian Reed, world languages; Lauren Sakowski, fine arts; Betsy Rivas, business; and Brittany Trott, social studies. The finalists were chosen after a long selection process.
First, the Teacher of the Year Committee put up flyers around the school encouraging students and staff members to nominate one candidates for Teacher of the Year. From there, the committee narrowed down the nominees to a group of finalists based on the nominee’s resume and written application that asked about their educational philosophy and asked them to discuss a current challenge facing educators.
The Teacher of the Year Committee is made up of a Renaissance Staff Steering Committee member and past Lafayette Teachers of the Year.
On Friday, Feb. 18 the staff will hear speeches fromthe students or staff members who nominated the finalist, and then will vote to select the new Teacher of the Year.
The LHS Teacher of the Year then moved on to compete for the Rockwood High School Teacher of the Year.
