Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Rockwood School District is currently writing a curriculum for a new womens history course, which will be offered in the 2025-2026 school year. Social studies teacher Jodie Lee will teach it at LHS.

On March 13, the Presidents Forum hosted a “Meet The Candidates” event at the Rockwood School District Administrative Annex. A student from each of Rockwood’s four high schools was chosen to ask candidates three questions and more questions were asked from anonymous PTO members.

Adolescent rates of problem gambling behaviors are double that of adult rates. Cait Huble, Director of Communications at the National Council on Problem Gambling said that this increase could be caused by online games which have blurred the lines between gaming and gambling.

New lacrosse coach seeks to maintain success of prior leadership, improve Lafayette standing
While his father Joe Wier celebrates behind him, senior Andrew Wier kneels down after winning the MSHSAA 190 pound State Title, Feb. 24. Wier finished runner up at State last year, but he came back with a 32-4 record and a State Championship in his senior season. The Lancers finished 2nd as a team at State this year.

At Barnes & Noble, senior Vedika Kumar participated in Blind Date with a Book. During this event, books are wrapped in paper with descriptive words that give a hint about the novel, and individuals are free to choose which one they want to buy.

After finishing their tests in history teacher Steve Klawiters class, students can participate in an optional trivia section. While Klawiter usually doesnt offer rewards for the highest score on the trivia section, it offers a way for students to decompress after unit tests.
History teacher provides de-stressing activities to students
Freshman Emi Limon competes in the 2022 World Kickboxing and Karate Union Championship in Wales. Even though Limon has only been doing karate for three years, he won four medals at the October competition— a gold medals in Weapons with Music and Korean Forms, a silver medal in Hardstyle Forms and a bronze medal in Weapons with no Music.

Captain Madison Chester, Class of 2020, surprised her coach, Denise Meyer, by choosing Meyer to be her SHEro during the SHEro night at girls basketball. Similar to choosing a SHEro, all students at Lafayette are encouraged to fill out the survey sent to their emails to indicate a trusted adult in the building. Trusted adults can range from any staff member that they feel safe with, including coaches they may have.

“The most helpful thing about Curriculum Night for me is probably the booths and getting to learn about all the classes. I am really interested in french and swim. I wasn’t sure how much I would enjoy taking Biology, but after talking to the teachers I am a lot more interested. I am most excited about sports at Lafayette,” Olivia Kerr, student at Crestview Middle School, said.

“I mostly came here tonight for the people, but very much most importantly, the volleyball. I am really interested in history and science. My sister plays volleyball and it is a big inspiration for me and I really want to be apart of it, I love the coaches. I have been waiting so long to go here, I am so excited to go to high school.I have been going here watching my sisters volleyball games for the past four years ever since I was little. It is so exciting and I can’t wait to attend here.” Maya Barbosa Kitzelman, student at Rockwood Valley Middle School, said.

“It’s really interesting because I get to meet all the teachers. I’m really interested in tennis and lacrosse. I’m really interested in history because I love history. I wasn’t sure that I wanted to do lacrosse, but now that I talked to the coach and everything, I think I really want to do it. I am so excited to spend the next four years at Lafayette High School,” Kailey Politte, student at Rockwood Valley Middle School, said.

“I am most excited about field hockey, softball and lacrosse for sports, and I am interested in French and Latin. What I like most about Curriculum Night is that you get to know way more about each thing you’re interested in and it gives you more of an idea of which class you’re going to take and even what team you are on for sports, I am so excited to spend the next four years at Lafayette,” Sophia Jansen, student at Rockwood Valley Middle School, said.
