With mallets in hand and horns at the ready, all three LHS bands (concert band, symphonic band and wind ensemble) performed in their first concert of the year on Oct. 30. Percussion ensembles also performed individual pieces, along with pieces with the wind ensembles.
The concert featured one song by only woodwind players, one song by brass players and ended with a piece played by both groups together. Wind ensemble played two pieces with both woodwinds and brass.
Here’s a brief glimpse at the performances by each of the groups.
The concert kicked off with Percussion 2. Directed by music teacher Kevin Lowe, they performed “Danse Macabre” by Saint-Saens and arranged by Brian Slawson.
Concert band, directed by music teacher Andrew Reader, ended their portion of the concert with “The Haunted Carousel” by Erika Svanoe.
Following concert band, symphonic band took the stage, playing their ensemble piece “Marche Diabolique” by Brian Balmages.
Between symphonic band and wind ensemble, Percussion 1 took the stage with their individual piece called “Escaping a Nightmare” by Eric C.W. Peel.
Music teacher Brad Balog directed the wind ensemble for the final piece of the night, “Ghost Train” by Eric Whitacre.
