In celebration of winning his second straight state title in the 215 weight class, junior Carter Brown backflips before leaving the mat. Brown won his bout against junior Kobe Rhymes of North Kansas City High School by fall in just 41 seconds. "Carter does what Carter does. We expect [success] out of him and his goals are bigger than the state championship," coach Sam Ritchie said.

As a final preparation for the winter musical “The Addams Family,” LTC performs in front of middle school students on Wednesday, Feb. 4 during lunch time in the Theatre. “The musical was based around the Addams family and their troubles after Wednesday Addams falls in love with a boy from Ohio that is vastly different from the family. Lucas Beineke and his parents, Mal and Alice, are as normal as can be and they struggle to understand the Addams and their way of life. The musical follows the two families as they struggle with secrets, love, and understanding each other,” said senior cast member Lucas Niblett.
A grave success
In the paint, senior forward Drew Pickering attempts to get a shot off, in the Battle of 109. The rivalry match-up remained close all game, before Eureka pulled away late, winning 56-53.

Girls wrestling program with new all-time wins leader, boys team victorious

Hannah Henderson shrugs after a win against her Northwest opponent. This was Hendersons 118th win to break the girls wrestling program all-time wins record.

Without knowing, senior Hannah Henderson became the Lafayette girls wrestling all-time wins leader. 

Henderson secured her 118th win Wednesday night in the girls team’s 48-32 loss against Northwest in the Theater at Lafayette, Dec. 11.  After the girls match, the boys earned the win over Northwest 44-33. 

Henderson broke four-time State champion and Class of 2022 alum Faith Cole’s previous record. 

Henderson learned that she broke the record when surprised by her coach and teammates, “I had no clue I was coming up on [the record],” Henderson said.

After moving from the 165 pound to 175 pound weight class, senior Jeremiah Drake slithered out of a bottom position and secured a pin on his Northwest opponent, earning him the victory. Drake, a new transfer from Indiana, helped the Lafayette boys wrestling team win the dual match against Northwest 44-33. 

Other notable Lancer wins were senior boys wrestler Aidan Schoen, who beat his opponent by a major 15-5 decision, junior girls wrestler Julia Dean, who also won by major decision and sophomore boys wrestler Max Rowe, who prevailed over his opponent and State finalist Eli Porter.

In a match against De Smet, junior John Fischer watches his ball glide down the lane. As of March 1, the Lancers are 6th in their league. Coach Derek Bader said he has seen improvement in the team throughout the season. “In terms of performance, the whole team has seen improvement in their game, seeing their overall averages increase,” Bader said.
Right up their alley
In preparation for a game, senior Wes Jennings and sophomore Evan Sommer play a practice match. The team was in the top 16 best eSport Rocket League teams nationally last year and hope to win nationals this year. "We try to practice as much as we can. We want to be as good as we can," Sommer said.

At the Forest Park Festival on Sept. 10, Lafayette varsity girls cross country gets recognized for placing second. Senior Grace Tyson placed first, junior Natalie Barnard placed fourth and senior Elissa Barnard placed eighth.
