The boys lacrosse team demonstrated their strength Wednesday night, April 24, as they beat St. Louis University High School (SLUH), a team that was thought to have the victory in their hands. However as the battle drew to a finish and the scoreboard read 10-7 in Lancer favor, the team gave notice to opponents to come: never underestimate the power of a Lancer team.
The team, coming off of a tough loss against school rivals Eureka 9-8 on April 20, persevered against SLUH, a team who they haven’t beaten in years. Even twitter account @ShowMeLax, an account dedicated to report on Missouri high school lacrosse, tweeted, “Oh no, just when you counted Lafayette out, they beat SLUH 10-7. The MSLA DI is up for grabs.”
In the first quarter, the teams fought hard and had a 2-2 tie. But the Lancers knew that wasn’t good enough and fought hard in the second part of the first half adding two more points to the score board as the Jr. Bills just added two. SLUH tried to regain the lead, but failed to even tie the Lancers past the first half.
Powerhouse juniors Justin Ruck and Bryce Rommel tore up the field both having hat tricks and Tim Slocum had two points, while Sophomore Justin Perry and Senior Jake Pyatt each contributed a point to the score.
Rommel was named player of the game with his three goals, an assist, and a 63 percent face off win.
The team now has a 6-5 record, a 54.5 winning percentage and is ranked tenth in the state of Missouri.
Their next game is Tuesday April 30 at 6 p.m.
