For the third year in a row, the Lafayette girls volleyball team opened the season with a close three-game loss to St. Joseph’s Academy. This time the score ran 25-23, 21-25, 25-17.
However, the team will still be tough to beat.
“I think we all played really great last night. Overall, we hustled a lot and played great defence with a lot of good kills too,” junior Stephanie Campbell said. “We are definately going to be training even harder after that match (St. Joe) and will work on all aspects of our game to improve before the next face off with St. Joe.”
Sophomore Lily Johnson also has a positive outlook about the season.
“We have high expectations for our team, just like every year at Lafayette. Our program is one of the top teams in the state, and we also came into this season nationally ranked.”
Johnson also said, “We have to work hard every day to acheive our goal of getting to state. We have a very young and experienced team this year.”
The Lancers’ next home match is Sept. 1 at 5:15 p.m.
“The season is just beginning and we’re excited!” Johnson said.
