Boys Basketball
In their Coaches vs. Cancer game against Eureka, the Lancers lost 50-40. Later in the week, the Lancers traveled to Maryville University for the Coaches vs. Cancer Holiday Tournament. They went 1-2, winning against Liberty 57-53 and losing against Webster Groves 75-50 and Troy 65-59. On Jan. 3, The Lancers will play at home against Kirkwood at 7 p.m. Despite their losing record, Head Coach Bryan Keim believes that this tournament was a valuable experience. “Our guys played hard and gave us a chance to win. Ultimately, we were a bit too inconsistent which led to us not finishing the tournament the way we’d hoped. We had a great experience and will use those games to learn and grow from,” Keim said.
Girls Basketball
In their Coaches vs. Cancer game against Eureka, the Lady Lancers lost 52-19. They then went 0-3 at the MICDS Holiday Tournament, losing to Fort Zumwalt West 59-30, Collinsville 41-29 and Ladue 47-36. They will play away against Kirkwood Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. Then they will play at Summit Jan. 5 at 7 p.m.
Hockey
In the Battle of 109 Winter Classic, the Lancers lost to Eureka 5-2. Later in the week, the Lancers bounced back against Fort Zumwalt North, winning 11-4. Senior Aidan Nosovitch had his second hat trick of the season and added two assists. Additionally, junior Mack Freeman also had a hat trick with one assist to his name. Then they beat Seckman 3-2 on New Years Day. The Lancers are 7-5-2 for the season. They will face Parkway South Jan. 5 and Eureka Jan. 6.
Boys Wrestling
At Granite City’s 62nd Annual William “Red” Schmitt Holiday Wrestling Tournament, the Lancers finished 2nd overall. Senior Dylan Roth and Freshman Riley Sumner won their weight classes. Senior Andrew Wier finished runner-up after dropping an overtime decision in the Finals. Freshman Carter Brown finished 3rd and junior Aidan Schoen and sophomores Calum Brown and Max Layman all placed 4th. Freshman Caleb Frankenberger finished 5th. The Lancers will host the Fred Ross Invitational, Jan. 6.
Girls Wrestling
At the Wonder Women Tournament, the Lady Lancers placed 5th. Junior Aaliyah Grammer placed 2nd and senior Toby Goertz finished 4th. Senior Maddie Johnson and junior Hannah Henderson finished 6th. The Lady Lancers will also host the Fred Ross Invitational, Jan 6. Even though she missed out on gold, Grammer is still proud of her finish. “The Wonder Women Tournament is always fun with a lot of good competition. Getting to the finals was a fight for sure and after losing I felt disappointed but also happy that improved from 8th to 2nd in a year,” Grammer said.
