The Lancer Feed
After being introduced by music teacher Brad Balog, the LHS Jazz Band plays their first song of the night, "Hay Burner." Right before Thanksgiving, all proceeds from this concert went towards the circle of concern food pantry.

Against Parkway West, junior short stop Riley Mulligan makes a play. Mulligan helped the Lancers win State after hitting a walk-off homerun. "I've been able to grow at the plate quite a bit, and I was able to step up big at the plate," Mulligan said.

Sophomore forward Aaron Keller goes 1 on 1 with an Oakville defender. Keller scored one of the goals in Lafayette's 6-6 tie to the Tigers on Nov. 22.

Lancers’ Election Perception
Phone practices across Rockwood are relatively similar, with an baseline expectation that phones are away during instructional time. While most high schools in the district ask phones be put away completely for the entirety of class, Lafayette is the only school that allows teachers to decide the expectations in their own classroom.

Sport: Boys Wrestling

Head coach: Joe Wier

Last season placement: The team placed 2nd in the MSHSAA Class 4 State championship. Along with the silver medal Lafayette had a State champion in the 190 weight class with, Class of 2024 graduate, Andrew Wier.

What are your goals for the team? “It’s really about the team’s goals for themselves and its nice to guide them but when it comes to it it’s just what those guys want. We had a fantastic end of the season last year, we took 2nd in State and our guys are hungry for more. There is only one spot to go higher than [2nd],” Wier said, “It’s going to take a lot of work and our team has been working at an amazing pace in the off season. This is probably the most work we have ever done.”

Wrestlers to watch this season: Coach Wier mentioned senior Jeremiah Drake who transferred to Lafayette from Indiana, senior Aiden Schoen and junior Calum Brown who placed 4th and 6th at state last season respectively. Wier also mentioned sophomore wrestlers such as Carter Brown, Caleb Frankenberger and Riley Sumner who all placed 3rd at State last season.

What makes this team stand out from past teams you have coached?  “This team has a lot of kids who have wrestled for a long time. They have wrestled at the highest levels. We have more kids on this team that have wrestled in the all-star division of our Florida trip that we take every year. They have gone against the best in the nation so they are not scared of tough competition, they are gritty and they like to win close matches. This team is full of heart and they are what I like to call ‘wrestling junkies’ which means they are all in,” Wier said.

 

Jeremiah Drake

Background: Drake moved to Lafayette from Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis where he placed 3rd in the 2024 ISWA men’s Greco wrestling State championship.

As a new member can you describe what the team chemistry is like? “The team chemistry is amazing, right when I got to Lafayette the team treated me like a brother and made me feel like a brother and made me feel like this was the right place for me,” Drake said.

Goals for this season: Drake wants to become a State champion and he wants to play a big role to help the team reach 1st as well.

At the LivingWord Church cross-country meet, Class of 2024, Jack Robeson runs through the race course. Robeson was the team's fastest runner last season, coming 5th in the State meet. "We lost a few good runners, but we have many new guys looking to step up and compete," Head Coach Sean O'Connor said.

Wier finished runner up at State last year, but he came back with a 32-4 record and a State Championship in his senior season. The Lancers finished 2nd as a team at State this year.
