Challenge Day provides unique learning experience for participants

When asked if they have ever been a part of gossip and rumors, nearly every student in the room raises their hand.

Select Lafayette students and staff members were chosen to participate in Challenge Day Sept. 13, which in other words is a day for students to connect and show compassion toward each other. Assistant Principal Mandy Lewis was in charge of the event.

“I believe that Challenge Day sent out a message to be more inclusive and understanding. People have a variety of life experiences that are positive and negative, therefore we shouldn’t judge each other,” Lewis said. “It can be a powerful experience for those participating and has positive long-term effects.”

The poster for Guitar Olympics hangs over the whiteboard in the guitar teacher Traci Boltons classroom. Although this was the first year of the event, Bolton said the idea started last year. We were stacking our footrests, and we thought we should make it a competition. Then we thought, what else could we do? We could do cable wrapping and getting picks out of the guitar. We started thinking about all the things we do in class, so we started making events, Bolton said.

Leslie has enjoyed being in the jazz band because of the unique style of music he has been exposed to. “The articulations and patterns are just fun to play [on the trombone],” Leslie said.

Later in the night, junior Kaitlyn Helm sings and plays her original song, Find Me. In her first run of the song, Helms microphone was off and she needed to start the song over. I feel like the first time weirdly gave me a way to get comfortable in the space. I’m definitely someone who has struggled on stage with nerves in the past and on that second try I got to go in a lot more confident. I know what I’m doing, I know what things I want to tweak and I was one of the only people who could’ve heard it, Helm said.

Wadsworth, the butler, played by junior Micah Bounds, explains to the rest of the characters how he believed the evenings events resulted in mutliple murders. His first accusation was that the character Mrs. Peacock had committed the murders.

Lafayette Theatre performs Fall Play, Classic Mystery Game

After the whistle blows, players rush toward each other at the line of scrimmage. On Oct. 1, Lafayette fell to Marquette, 25-6 at the Lafayette Homecoming Game. We didnt get the job done. It wasnt for lack of effort, or being prepared, we just lost. It happens. I wouldnt want to have played that game with anyone else, senior lineman Tommy Hagan said.
