Infinite Campus first semester grading discrepancy affects students, should be resolved

Jessica Brown, Business Manager

On January 15, Infinite Campus sent the following school notice via their online messaging tool:

“Some student GPA’s for Semester 1 grading were calculating inaccurately.  This issue has been resolved as of 9:30 am, January 15, 2014.  If Semester 1 student report cards or transcripts were viewed or printed prior to the time mentioned above, the students GPA may be incorrect.  We apologize for this issue.”

This Infinite Campus grade error wasn’t specific to Lafayette, as students at Marquette and Eureka have also reported similar issues.

One of the many Lafayette students affected by this error was senior Kaitlyn Lee. She experienced the grading error with Jean Peters’ Senior Literature Flex class. “I freaked out because I was supposed to have a B+ and then it was a D,” Lee said.  However, she just waited and by the next day Lee said her grade was corrected both online and on the report card the school later mailed out.

On January 28, Principal John Shaugnessy sent out an email on behalf of Lafayette High School to all parents of students, both those affected and not. The email said that on 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28, all issues regarding first semester report cards would be completely resolved. For seniors that asked for transcripts to be sent during the time of the issue, corrected transcripts are being printed and sent out to colleges by the college counselors.

“I want you to be assured that we are committed to a thorough review of grading procedures to ensure this problem does not occur in the future,” Shaugnessy said in the email.

By this time, all grading errors should be corrected, but if a student notices an incorrect grade they should talk to their counselor or a principal.
