Taking Advantage of the ‘Winter’ Storm

Unlike the expected snow days that occur during the winter months, the snow day of March 25 has surprised many students.

The March snow day, considered a “gift from the snow gods,” has given students an extra day to spend as they please.

Expecting to go back to school on March 25 after their week long Spring Break, students like junior Chase Shelton take advantage of the extended break to relax.

“On most snow days I just sleep in and go sledding, today was no exception,” Shelton said.

Other students use snow days to catch up on homework they didn’t complete over the break or to go spend extra time with their family such as sophomore Lauren Hakmiller.

“I’m going to see Oz with my family at Wehrenberg. Because I work there, movies are free on weekdays but I never have time to go on a normal day of school, so today was a great time to go,” Hakmiller said.

Despite the various ways students are spending their extra day off, some have conflicting feelings about the late arrival of the snow and how it would affect school.

“I was really excited when we had a snow day because i just got back from a trip so I have an extra day to figure things out, going back to school wont be hard either because we never went back to school to begin with,” Hakmiller said.

As an older student however, Shelton dislikes the timing of the snow day in accordance to school.

“It shouldn’t be snowing at the end of march, so close to AP exams and other major test for upper class-men,” Shelton said.
