At the 2023 Prom, Class of 2023 graduates Joe Marlo and Will Barry stay at the edge of the main floor to do their dancing. Because the small dance floor was the most crowded area, many students gathered around the edges with friends or in small groups.

Schedule change DOs and DON’Ts of the new year

Schedule change DOs and DONTs of the new year

With the summer coming to a close, and the new school year approaching rapidly, many students find they are unhappy with the schedules presented to them at orientation.

However, it is important to remember what to do, and what not to do, before you make your appointment with the counselors.

“We also do our best to keep the classes as balanced as possible.  With over 2,000 students, and as many courses as Lafayette has to offer, that can at times be a very difficult task,” counselor Marybeth Desloge said.

Changes that wouldn’t be considered would be switching teachers for the same course, switching a course from one semester to another, changing hours of the day and switching between blocked and standard courses.

“The Master Schedule is planned according to student class choices, not when they will get their classes.  If we allow these changes it will affect the overall schedule and throw it off balance,” counselor Deborah Parker said.

Before showing up at the Guidance Office, make sure you have a signed Parent Permission slip in order to make the appropriate changes.  Acceptable changes to add to the slip would be a blank hour, two classes in the same hour, no prerequisite and having already earned the credit for a certain class.

Seniority is used when making schedule change; thus, seniors are given their choices first, then juniors, etc

“The only exceptions to this procedure are made individually, on a case by case situation, and done by an administrator,” Parker said.
