Recently, junior Adam Johnson started the Lafayette High School AP Student Advisory Board (APSAB). The purpose of the club is to guide and help AP and WG students throughout their classes and advise them about which classes to take in the future.
The club is made up of students who have had either a weighted grade or an Advanced Placement class. Club members are categorized as either Advisors or Assistants to younger students currently enrolled in AP or WG classes.
The Advisors of the club have taken many WG or AP classes, and offer their experience and opinions to younger students who want help deciding which courses they should take. Assistants in the club help the students develop good habits for taking notes, studying and completing coursework.
“[APSAB] is a place where AP students can come together, encourage and help each other reach their full academic potential,” APSAB Vice President, junior Haley Harrison, said.
The group cycles on a three week schedule, meeting two days out of each week. Advisors and Assistants are placed into numbered groups which designate the days of those weeks they are to meet. Each member will have two days out of the three weeks that they assist the students.
Although the group recently started, it has met twice and plans on having a few more general meetings before the official advisement and assistance begins. Any student that wants another student’s personal opinion on classes to take or studying tactics is encouraged to stop by when the regular meetings begin.
