The Rockwood School District Board of Education agreed upon the 2011 tax rate of $4.4630.
This tax rate is up 18.78 cents from last year’s rate of $4.2752. This new tax levy is the highest it has been since 2005, when the rate was $4.5074.
According to the press release on the Rockwood website, one contributer to the rate increase is due to the “revenue lost in 2009.”
In 2009, the dsitrict was required to set their tax rate in August, before calculations were completed from the prior year, causing it to set the rate too low, losing money.
Because of the combined amount of the 2010 rate increase and the 2011 increase, RSD will have completely recovered from their losses by the end of the 2011 school year.
