Tamaroff moves on to Central Office

As the new school year begins, teachers throughout Rockwood are adjusting to new classrooms, new students and sometimes new schools.  Lafayette’s former Latin teacher, Jeff Tamaroff, however, is adjusting to a new job.

Last June, a position as Curriculum Coordinator for the World Language and ESOL Departments for the district presented itself, and Tamaroff applied.

“I had been thinking about going into curriculum and instruction for a while. The opportunity presented itself, so I applied,” Tamaroff said.

He had two interviews, and received the job on June 17.

Tamaroff said his new job is to basically research instructional strategies and share them with teachers.  He also develops the school improvement plans and keeps teachers informed of current educational trends and practices.

“I like the challenge and variety that comes with the job.  One day I may have a meeting with ESOL teachers discussing placement, the next day I may have a meeting with teachers of a specific language and discuss changes to their curriculum and the possibility of a new course.  There are many great opportunities out there for students at LHS and throughout the district, and I can’t wait for people to take advantage of them,” he said.

Although he enjoys his new job, he does miss some aspects of his job as a Latin teacher at Lafayette.

“I really enjoyed being in the classroom.  It was great to interact with students on a daily basis. Frequently, I learned as much from the students as they were learning from me.  I also miss the many friends I made among the staff at LHS,” Tamaroff said.
