Wesley decorates cakes in free time

While many opt for more common pastimes such as doodling and watching television, sophomore Mallory Wesley decorates cakes.

She first realized she wanted to decorate cakes while watching the Food Network on television.

“I like to watch the Food Network and thought it would be a fun skill to learn so I just decided to do it over the summer when I saw the sign [at Michael’s],” Wesley said.

So, she followed through, and decided to take a class at Michael’s the summer of 2009. Now, she bakes cakes for her family and other events, when needed.

Wesley said, “I’ve decorated a cookie cake for my brother’s birthday, and I donated a decorated cake to the St. Alban’s [basement] sale.”

In the future, she hopes to share her skills with the rest of the world and open up her own shop.

She said, “For now, I like to decorate cakes for my family and friends but maybe in the future, I would like to open my own cupcake shop.”
