How To: Turn a Pumpkin into a Jack-o-Lantern

As Halloween comes closer, it comes time to turn that pumpkin you picked into a Jack-O-Lantern.  This is a fun tradition that helps spice up your front yard and welcome young trick-or-treaters to your door.

Materials Needed:

1 pumpkin 1 sharp knife
1 bucket 1 Sharpie
1 candle 1 match
1 spoon

Directions:

  1. Cut a circular lid in the top of your pumpkin with a sharp knife.
  2. You will notice that there is a lot of gunk and seeds in your pumpkin and on your lid.  Don’t be afraid of getting your hands dirty, and reach in there and with your spoon, scoop all of the gunk and seeds out of the pumpkin and into your bucket.
  3. Now, it’s time to focus on the outside of your pumpkin.  Draw a face with your sharpie.  Be creative, and make it as fun as you want.
  4. With your knife, cut along the lines you drew, in order to make holes for the facial features.  Throw any scrap pumpkin pieces from the cutting away.
  5. Set your newly made Jack-o-Lantern wherever you want it.  Now, take your match and light the candle.
  6. Set the candle into your Jack-o-Lantern, and shut the lid.
  7. Watch your Jack-o-Lantern glow in the night’s light.
