Social Studies teacher Steve Klawiter will have his AP World History class take the digital exam this May. He said he looks forward to seeing how his students will perform on the exam. “Its been very clear theyre moving towards digital. Since the pandemic started, theyve been putting the pieces in place to go digital, Klawiter said. “I think that ultimately it’s going to be more beneficial because with systems like Canvas and Google Classroom, students are used to more digital activities and less handwriting activities.”

Principal Karen Calcaterra surprises Natasha Fischer with flowers and a balloon Feb. 7, 2022 after she was selected as Teacher of the Year. The following year, she left LHS to become an Administrative Intern at Kellison Elementary.

After working as an Administrative Assistant at Kellison Elementary School from 2022-2024, former Lafayette drama teacher Natasha Fischer will be returning as a Lancer in the 2024-2025 school year.

She will fill the opening that is being left when Assistant Principal Tim Jones retires at the end of the year. She will be assigned the incoming Class of 2028.

Principal Karen Calcaterra announced in an email to LHS staff members after the Board of Education approved Fischer’s hiring at its Jan. 18 meeting.

Before transitioning to Kellison, Fischer worked at Lafayette for 14 years and was named the Teacher of the Year for the 2021-2022 school year. She also received the Going the Distance award, which is selected by the members of the Senior Class and announced each year at the Senior Awards Night.

For Fischer, returning to Lafayette is like coming home.

“I didn’t leave because I wanted to, I left to learn how to be the best administrator I could be for Lafayette,” she said. “I always knew I would make it back home some day.”

On top of being excited to be part of a strong and supportive community, Fischer said she looks forward to seeing her former students graduate.

“I am excited to be part of all the amazing things happening there,” Fischer said. “Next year I get to see the last freshmen I had graduate.”

As part of the hiring process, junior Lauren Blosser was on a student committee that met three of the Assistant Principal candidates, including Fischer.

“She was really sweet. I remember her having so much energy and enthusiasm,” Blosser said. “She seemed like someone who can fit into Lafayette.”

The most important thing Fischer said she wants the Lafayette community to know is how excited she is for next year.

“Once a Lancer, always a Lancer,” she said.
