Lafayette (3-3) dropped a close one to rival Marquette (4-2) 28-20. The Lancers had control for the majority of the first half, and were up 14-0 before giving up a long touchdown pass to give the Mustangs some momentum entering the half. Giving up long touchdown passes were the Lancers bane this game, as they gave up another long pass for a touchdown to let Marquette back into the game right after a Lafayette field goal.

The rushing attack was the main focus of the Lancer offense. Austin Stofer rushed for 127 yards on just 21 carries to keep drives alive for the Lancers. However, late in the game, Lafayette threw two interceptions on their final two drives, and had an overthrow on a deep pass to a wide open Tommy Taylor that could’ve kept the Lancers lead.

The next game is against the (2-3) Webster Groves Statesman. Webster Groves has an offense based around primarily running the ball and rotating between two backs throughout.

“We practiced a lot with the scout team and we’ve been working a lot on our alignments,” linebacker Adam Cook said. “With everything we’ve worked on this week, it should be a good week.”

Lafayette’s homecoming is this weekend and as always a huge crowd is expected at the game.

“It’s exciting,” Cook said. “We’re all trying to go out there and get a win for the homecoming crowd this week and it should be really fun.”

The game is on Sept. 30 after the homecoming parade at Lafayette. The estimated start time is 7:30 p.m.
