With only two regular season games left, the Lady Lancers softball team will need to kick it into high gear to get ready for the post-season.

Hillsboro (18-4) is the first opponent Lafayette will face in the last two games. The game will begin around 6:30 p.m. and will take place at Hillsboro on Sept. 28. The last game of the regular season will begin at 4:15 at Parkway South (9-10) on Oct. 3.

Despite the team’s struggle to find consistent play, Head Coach Scott DeNoyer has confidence in his team.

“I feel real good going into Districts. We played a very tough schedule to prepare us for this time of year. Our struggles are nothing more than experience,” DeNoyer said. “We learn from all of them and be better next time. If all goes as planned, we will be our best heading into post season.”

The teams seniors have played a pivotal role in the teams season. Addie Balderston leads the team in singles and steals, Sarah Dobson leads the team in wins and strikeouts and Lauren Kulick leads the team in batting average, runs batted in and doubles. Other seniors Kayley Allen, Taylor Hand and Madisyn Henne have also contributed to the team with stats just below the team leaders as well as adding veteran experience to the squad.

Hillsboro will offer a tough match-up for the Lady Lancers, but DeNoyer is confident in his team’s gameplan.

“Today our goal is to make a couple plays on defense. Regardless of the outcome we must make some plays. Not just the routine, but the ones championship teams make,” DeNoyer said. “That will improve our confidence on defense and hopefully continue to improve throughout the post season.”

Be sure to go out and support the team as they take on the Hillsboro Hawks at Hillsboro on Sept. 28 starting around 6:30 p.m.
