Lafayette traveled to St. Peters, MO to compete in the 2016 State swimming and diving State meet on Nov. fourth and fifth and had a solid outing.

The team scored 75 points total and came in 12th place at the event out of the 40 teams that competed at the State championship. The Lancers had some great individual performances from many of the young athletes.

Alex Wilmsen placed fifth in the 100 yard breaststroke and also came in seventh in the 200 yard individual medley race and Connor McCool came in fourth in diving. The team had other young athletes that had good outings as well, but it wasn’t enough to put Lafayette over the hump.

“We did really good,” Wilmsen said. “I was really happy with our relay places and we all dropped time.”

The team will look to have a strong season next year with many of the players that placed this year returning next year. With more senior leadership and stronger talent, the Lancers will be a force to be reckoned with next year.

“Our coach was really happy with the freshman this year and everyone was getting faster this season. We should have two sophomores that start swimming next year, who swim club, and hopefully they swim. Hopefully we can place top five at State next year. We’re growing and hopefully we can get more freshman next year.” Wilmsen said.
