Lafayette’s undefeated season ends in heartbreak with loss to De Smet
November 11, 2015
Lafayette’s run ended in the Quarterfinals with a 1-0 loss to the De Smet Spartans on Saturday, Nov 7. The lone goal came with roughly three minutes remaining in the game, when De Smet scored a header off of a corner kick.
The goal was the first allowed by goalkeeper Scott Caraway since their game against Parkway South and was just the second goal allowed in the Lancers’ last ten games.
However, De Smet’s goal did not come without controversy. As defender David Marshall was shielding the ball, the corner-kick that Lafayette conceded was actually believed to be a goal-kick.
The Lancers end their season at 23-1-1, with the leading goal scorers being Colton Boone and Matthew Scharf, each with eight goals. David Marshall had the most assists of the season, with a total of eight.
The Lancers, while not quite getting to the final four, look to finish what they started next season.
