Lafayette hockey moves closer to State Championship

So far this season, Lafayette’s varsity hockey team has compiled a record of 3-15-2. Their regular season was disappointing as they came up short in most of their games. However, they still won arguably their biggest matchup of the year and garnered the Silver Skate trophy against Conference rival, the Marquette Mustangs.

Despite their disappointing regular season, the Lancers claimed a berth in post-season action. Playing for State, they were the lowest seed coming into the playoffs.

Sitting in the 16th seed, their hard work finally paid off in an upset against top ranked Seckman. Lafayette’s goalie, senior Jacob Bierschenk said, “We really turned our play around that game. I think our team really linked the pieces together and played well together.”

Lafayette proceeded to advance through the semi-finals, defeating MICDS in a close game.

Bierschenk continued, “Our guys have to continue to hustle to the puck and get back on defense if we want to win.”

With a post-season record of 6-2, the Lancers are now in a position to win a State championship. They will go up against District rival Rockwood Summit Falcons, where they hope their hard work  this season will cultivate and result in a State championship.
