Lafayette football upsets Eureka; preparing next week for Kirkwood

On Oct. 31, the varsity football team faced their Conference rival in the the District semifinal and brought home a 40-35 win over the Eureka Wildcats, who went into the game with only one loss on the season.
Overcoming tragedy that occurred on Thursday, Lafayette played their hearts out for their fallen teammate, Noah Cook.
In the first quarter, junior Brendan Scales caught two touchdown passes for a total of 95 yards. Senior Brian Boyd also caught a touchdown pass in the quarter. At the end of the first frame, Lafayette was winning 21-13.
In the second quarter, junior Jake Reynolds found the uprights with a 21 yard field goal. Eureka proceeded to score a touchdown, putting the score at 24-21 at the end of the first half.
Each team found the end zone twice in the third and fourth quarters. Reynolds converted a 3- yard field goal in the fourth as well.
When time finally elapsed, the Lancers came out on top.
Junior linebacker Nathan Brooks said, “We played great. Everyone on the team made a contribution. We’re one unit.”
Next up, the Lancers will face Kirkwood on Friday, Nov. 7. Lafayette will be looking to change its fortune against Kirkwood, as they lost 48-21 in their first contest with the Pioneers this season.
