This past weekend, Lafayette wrestling competed in the Class 4 District 1 Tournament and finished third out of the 15 teams. As a team, the Lancers scored 175.5 points after the two days. After the first day, they fell short of the lead to Jackson by four points.

Lancers who qualified for State are Caleb Covert at 106, Jordan Carson at 113, Tim Bogar at 120, Alex Wier at 126, Alec Reid at 132, Adam Bogar at 145, Christian Alexander at 152, Brendan McKenna at 170 and Brendon Schlote at 182.

Sophomore Brendan McKenna earned his 40th win, proving to be a stand out wrestler as an underclassman.

Senior Adam Bogar was taken down by defending state champ Brock Wingbermuehle, from Seckman. Bogar and Wingbermuehle battled it out in the 140-pound championship where Wingbermuehle got ahead to an 18-5 lead before pinning Bogar.

Another Seckman wrestler came out on top to a Lancer. Sophomore Alex Wier fell to Seckman’s Weston Basler. Although it was a loss in the championship, Wier qualified for State. He is excited to return to State for a second year in a row.

“We have high  expectations and hope to bring back a few State medals and a top four team plaque,” Wier said.

All season the Lancers have been a highly competitive wrestling team with big goals and expectations going into the rest of the post-season.

This weekend, the Lancers will make their way to Mizzou to compete at the  Mizzou arena.
