For the second straight game, the Lafayette football team could only watch helplessly as the clock wound down on a lopsided loss. After being shut out 28-0 at Eureka, the squad fell to Lindbergh 48-10 in Friday’s (Sept. 3) home opener.
The Flyers attacked with a good mix of run and pass, getting their first three scores through the air and their last four on the ground. Senior quarterback Peter Simpson did most of his work in the first half and finished with 283 passing yards and three touchdowns.
The Lancers seemed to be in trouble from the opening kickoff, when a fumble gave Lindbergh possession in Lafayette territory and set up Simpson’s 19-yard touchdown pass to senior Adam Schremp just a couple plays later.
After going three-and-out on their first drive, the Lancers retook possession on an interception and had a chance to tie the game. But they would give it right back on the next play as the Flyers forced a second fumble and were again given good field position. They took advantage as Simpson and Schremp connected for a second time, this one on a 28-yard strike to make it 13-0.
Lindbergh would extend its lead to 19-0 with Simpson’s12-yard completion to senior Tim Hamm-Bey, his third touchdown pass of the first quarter. Later on, short touchdown runs by Hamm-Bey and junior Jordan Goodman broke the game open at 35-0. Just before halftime the Lancers scored their first points of the season on a 32-yard field goal by senior Max Zaun, finally giving the restless home crowd something to cheer about.
After a rough first half on offense, the Lancers inserted junior Dominic Bisesi at quarterback and saw relative success moving the ball. With Dupont lined up as a wide receiver, the Lancers put a solid scoring drive together that ended with a goal line run by senior Thomas Swoboda. The Flyers would add two more rushing touchdowns late in the fourth quarter to seal the game.
With the loss, Lafayette now ranks last in Conference scoring and sixth in points allowed. Their next game takes place Sept. 10 on the road against Fox High School.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
