Homecoming win gives Lancers early edge in Districts

With a 35-19 win over Parkway South on Oct. 15, the Lancers gave Lafayette students the perfect start to Homecoming weekend.

The16-point margin of victory also put them atop the District standings with 13 total points. (CBC defeated Marquette 41-38 on the same night, placing the Cadets in second place with three points.)

After falling behind 7-0 in the first quarter, the Lancers tied the game on 28-yard touchdown run by sophomore Deonte Robinson.

They would go on to score 28 unanswered points on touchdown passes to seniors Aareon Smith and Chris Hall and sophomore John Voit, as well as a second score by Robinson, his fourth in as many games. The Patriots didn’t score again until late in the fourth quarter, on touchdown runs by Lawrence Scott and Nikhil Vaid.

Junior quarterback Dom Bisesi spread the ball around to seven different recievers and finished with 202 yards and three touchdowns on 15 of 26 passing.

“It’s just a huge team-bonding effort. We can only go up from here. if we just stick to the fundamentals and do the little things, we should win a District championship like we were hoping,” senior Jared Brinkmeyer said.

After starting the season with two embarrassing losses to Eureka and Lindbergh, the Lancers have only gotten better, as Brinkmeyer said. With the exception of a 30-17 loss to McCluer North on Sept. 17, they have scored 30 points in every game since and have won each one. Now, a win against Marquette (6-2) on Oct. 22 would almost guarantee the team a top-two finish in Districts and a spot in Sectionals.
