Girls volleyball claims Conference crown for 4th straight year

The game on Oct. 19 against Eureka was huge from every angle for the girls volleyball team. It was Senior Night, the last regular season game and it came against Eureka, who was tied for first with Lafayette in the Suburban West Conference .

The Lady Lancers bested Eureka by a score of 3-1. This victory put them at 8-0 in the Suburban West this season, giving them the Conference title for the fourth year in a row. The Lady Lancers are the first team in the history of the Suburban West to win Conference four years in a row.

Although the match doesn’t seem close, the games were tightly contested.

There were many lead changes in every single game. Eureka came out on top in the first game 25-21. The Lady Lancers fought back to win game number two decisively, 25-15. Game three was a nail biter as both teams battled every play with the lead going back and forth all game long. Lafayette made the most big plays to get the 25-23 win.

Game fourwas tight until the end when the Lady Lancers took over. Eureka scored a few late points to make it more respectable at 25-18 Lafayette.

“The win felt good. Not only did we finish first in the Conference for the fourth year in a row, but we also proved to ourselves that we are definitely in contention for a District title,” senior captain Abby Moser said.

“[The win] was huge. I’m really proud of everyone; we did so well,” sophomore standout Steph Campbell said.

Senior Night impacted the play of  not only the seniors, but the underclassmen as well.

“Everyone was really pumped and there was no way we were going down on our Senior Night,”  Campbell said.

The Lady Lancers look to build on this going forward to  tournament play this weekend and Districts after that.

“I think that this high energy and intensity will carry on to our tournament this weekend and then to Districts,” Campbell said.
