In a hard fought battle against John Burroughs in the State semifinals, the Lady Lancers fell to the Bombers 2-0 on Nov. 4, to bring both their run at the Midwest Field Hockey Tournament and the season to an abrupt end.
Goals by John Burroughs late in the first half and early on in the second had the Lancers struggling to contain the state’s leading scorer, Charlotte Martin, who recorded one goal and one assist in the game.
”It was a hard game and its tough ending the season with a loss but we still had a good season,” senior Shannon Knobloch said.
During the course of the season, the Lady Lancers went 21-3 overall and a perfect 10-0 record in league play. They allowed just 13 goals all season and scored 89 against their opponents.
Sophomore Kate Barber led the Suburban Conference in points with 80, which also ranked second in the State. Knobloch followed with 58, which was good for fourth in Conference.
Though the team’s hopes for a State title were put to rest, the squad still remained content with this season’s successes. This included winning both the consecutive Gateway Classic Pool Championship and the Public School Tournament for the third straight year.
“I think we had a great season. We worked really hard and we were dedicated all year. Everyone just kept working hard, “ junior Ashton Lichvar said.
