One of the art departments showcased was the fashion classes. Some work shown was made by senior Lillian Ware and junior Landon Griesbach. Aside from fashion classes, culinary classes were also shown, where people were able to taste test charcuterie boards and choose which one looked and tasted the best.

While not everyone's work from the art classes was picked to be shown, Sakowski said that many factors are weighed when the teachers pick work to be shown. "At the high school level, we strive to choose exemplary work to showcase. It could be because the student met expectations, worked very hard and/or persevered through problem-solving or technical difficulties," Sakowski said.

In an effort to further her skills, senior Caoimhe Farris has taken as many art classes as she could throughout her high school experience and found AP Art and Art Design and Application helped make her art come to life. "One of my pieces was an exploration of Hawaiian water funerals and the beauty in mourning and celebrating a person's life. I did this one after visiting Hawaii for six days and learning about the people and culture while I was there," Farris said.

For one of their projects in Art Fundamentals, students had the opportunity to choose a character and blow it up into a bigger size. The goal was to have the ability to draw a character in a bigger size and paint the final image with shades of one color.

While filming a mock interview for his Survivor audition, business teacher Scott Beaver jokingly tries out different characters. Beaver has applied for the show five times, where he has to film a video audition and send it in to the CBS Survivor casting link.

To manage side effects from the ADHD medication she takes, Stoffel uses different strategies to overcome the loss of appetite or difficulty sleeping. "I came up with these systems over time with trial and error. I tried a lot of different strategies until I found some that work, Stoffel said.

The Lafayette Lancers head south down Highway 109 for this year’s Battle of 109 against the Eureka Wildcats on Oct. 7. Lafayette fell to Eureka 35-14, in the Catpound during last year’s match-up. When the Lancers travel to EHS this year, they will be looking to gain some ground in the annual event, where the Wildcats have a 9-4 advantage. Seniors Baylor Adamovsky and Braden Kladney both scored in last year’s contest and junior Zae Jones led the returning offense in rushing and passing yards. With the rest of the varsity squad, they are working to be ready to face the Wildcats on their turf in hopes of spoiling an EHS Homecoming game. The Superfans will also do their part off the field to get Lancer fans to fill the visitor stands for the 7 p.m. kick-off.

"We were stacking our footrests, and we thought we should make it a competition. Then we thought, what else could we do? We could do cable wrapping and getting picks out of the guitar. At the Rockwood Jazz Festival, Junior Kaitlyn Southwick plays the trumpet during "Pete's Groove." Southwick has enjoyed putting the festival repertoire together with the band. “I enjoy the music. I also enjoy the people who I perform with," Southwick said.

Junior Evelyn DiGenova (bass) and sophomores Lana Dauw (keys) and Mark Schultheiss (guitar) perform "Pete's Groove" at the Rockwood Jazz Festival. The band has been preparing for the festival for months. The jazz band meets every zero hour on Tuesday to Friday.

The Lafayette High School Jazz Band takes their final bow on Jan. 12 at the Rockwood School District Jazz Festival. The band performed two pieces: "Pete's Groove" by Rick Stitzel and "C Jam Blues" by Duke Ellington. The festival consisted of bands from all four high schools and one middle school in the district.

The Marquette High School Jazz Band performs "insert," one of two of their pieces. Marquette was just one of five bands that performed at the Rockwood Jazz Festival. Other schools included Rockwood Summit, Eureka, Rockwood Valley and Lafayette.

In the 2020-2021 school year, the AMPED class designed their own skateboards at the end of the school year.
