Since his freshman year, junior Caleb Warner has been working to break Lafayette’s record for the 100-yard breaststroke. The record from 2016 was a time of 57.4 seconds.

On Oct. 26 at the Suburban Conference Yellow Pool Meet at Ladue, he met that goal, setting a new LHS record with a time of  57.3 seconds. He placed 2nd in the event.

By setting the new record, Warner’s name will be displayed on the record board in the pool area above the diving boards.

Warner said he was excited to have finally broken the school record. He has been swimming competitively for eight years with the Rockwood Swim Club and for Lancers.

“Every day I try my best to improve. When I first realized I beat the record I was just really excited and happy,” Warner said.

Warner got interested in swimming because of his family members who also competed in the past.

“I started swimming because my mom swam in college and because my sister also swims,” he said.

Senior captain Brad Allison has known Warner for years now, through RSCA and the Lafayette team.

Allison said having a teammate break a school record and get to add his name to the board makes the whole team proud.

“Honestly our reaction was kind of delayed, as we weren’t 100% sure if he had broken the record or not. Once we found out, we caught him as he was walking back to the team and we all real quick started hugging him and giving him pats on the back. Overall, our reaction was more of pride than excitement,” Allison said.
