The boys and girls varsity cross country teams ran in the Forest Park invitational last weekend and came home with some solid results.

The boys, while not demonstrating the same dominance as their last meet, still had very good results overall. In the five kilometer run, Austin Hindman placed highest among the Lancers and took fifth place with a time of 16:38.20. The rest of the boys did well, all placing in the top 100 and four placing in the top 51: Hindman, Tommy Laarman (33rd with a time of 17:52.90), Harrison Brown (35th with a time of 17:53.20) and Nassim Oufattole (51st with a time of 18:10.40).

The girls team also had some top 100 finishers in Mollie Rogan and Meg Nicholson. Rogan finished with a time of 21:05.40 and Nicholson finished with a time of 22:25.70.

The running conditions for this meet however, were less than optimal.

“It was after a bunch of rain, so we had a lot of trouble with actually running in the mud. All the times were significantly slower, but the good news is it was really fun,” Nicholson said. “We kind of had to throw the idea of running a good time out the window, and it became a more about finishing, having fun and racing the people around you instead of racing for a specific time.”

The teams have their next meet on Sept. 17, the Paul Enke meet, at Sioux Passage in Florissant.
